Megadoor doors are designed to handle high wind load on buildings. The aluminum structural intermediate beams between the two layers of fabric of the overhead doors simply transfers the horizontal wind pressure to the guide rails mounted on the steel jambs provided by the building supplier or, in the case of multiple-leaf doors, to the swing-up mullions provided by Megadoor. Read more about wind load and wind pressure.
Megadoor doors operate flawlessly regardless of how extreme the outside or inside temperature. High wind load and snow and ice do not affect the performance of these superior doors. All Megadoor materials and equipment are designed for extreme temperatures. For example, any ice accumulation after a wash-down simply falls off the flexible fabric. |

We are often asked about the energy efficiency of Megadoor doors. Hot climates want it cool inside and cold climates want it warm inside. The key is air infiltration. Studies have shown that approximately 80% heat loss/gain is caused by mass flow when the door is open and 10% to air infiltration. These roll up doors have an operating speed much higher than conventional doors and a permanent seal which means that air infiltration is minimal, even under high wind pressure. In fact, the door seal improves as the wind load increases.
The air space between the double fabric of our overhead doors is an excellent insulator, stopping winds that other doors can’t. In addition, the high speed capability of the Megadoor can cycle up to 24” per second thereby reducing heat loss/gain making it more pleasant for your employees. This unique fabric also reduces interior noise levels from equipment reverberations. This sound deafening quality is another Megadoor advantage.
And yet another advantage is the vertical operation – you control how high you want your doors to open. With horizontal/sliding doors, you don’t get a choice; it’s either all open or all closed.
Besides being well suited for extreme environments, Megadoor doors also have high reliability and durability, can withstand high wind pressure and wind loads, and offers flexibility in building design to reduce construction and operating costs. In short, the Megadoor solves many of the large overhead door challenges faced by engineers and architects.
